Just finished tying up a batch of this attractor stonefly pattern I came up with specifically for freshly stocked trout on delayed harvest trout water. You can see it’s pretty colorful, which is designed to get the trout’s attention. Give this pattern a try next time you hit the early season delayed harvest trout water.

Finishing your flies with bright thread colors like fluorescent pink, orange, and green, can increase the effectiveness of your flies on delayed trout water. Think of the bright head as creating a “hot spot” on the fly that grabs the trouts attention. Incorporating hot heads on your more natural fly patterns (like soft-hackles) can be a subtle way to make your flies more appealing to stocked trout.
