LAKE
LANIER IS DOWN 13.6 FEET, AND LAKE IS STAINED AND THE
CREEKS AND THE RIVERS ARE STAINED 79 DEGREES.
Spotted bass are feeding actively and the mid day sun brings them
and the bait to the surface. Never go on the lake this month and
next without a Zara Spook, a 7 inch Red Fin and a buzz bait already
rigged up. If you do not have a top water bait tied on, you will
soon see that was a mistake. White Zoom Super Flukes will also
disappear once they hit the water and sink two feet. Just be sure
you have some extra line on the reels and be prepared for a big
bite from a spot or a striper. Spot Stickers and green worms are
the best all day and all night bait and try some 10 pound test
Fireline Crystal line on a spinning reel. Stay in the shadows as
long as possible and then move to docks and then off shore structure.
Pull a Carolina rigged Zoom green pumpkin lizard and use a 4 and
a 6 inch lizard. Zara Spooks in bright colors as small Shad Raps
will work and use light line and cover a lot of water. After the
early feeding period, the fish move to deeper man made and natural
cover. The fish will take all white floating worms and small spinner
baits. Then get out the #7 Shad Rap in perch and baby bass patterns.
Run a shallow 7A Bomber in greens and fire tigers and bounce the
baits off the bottom and get super shallow. Be sure to use a buzz
bait in the backs of any creek lake wide even in the middle of
the day. Night fishing is fair to good and a black Mini Me or similar
all back spinner bait will work. Take the some and Fat Albert grubs
for night fishing too.

Striper fishing is good and the top water bite
is getting better this week. I am now finding big schools of fish
and it is a beautiful thing to see my Lowrance just covered up.
Flat lines in the morning for an hour after sunrise will work well.
Put them out 60 to 80 feet behind the boat. Use a split shot 6’
in front of your bait to get them a little deeper. Most of the
fish are 20 to 40 feet deep. Switch to down lines after about an
hour or so after sunrise. Check out the steep banks from mid creeks
to the mouth. Blueback herring and jumbo shiners are best. We still
see some great schools above Gainesville Marina still in the 20
to 40 foot depth. Fishing is great till around noon, then the bite
drops off significantly and early morning is best. The south end
of the lake is fair on long slick points on the main lake or in
some creeks and the same pattern applies. Use 6 foot fluorocarbon
leaders with 12 to 14 pound test and #6 to #2 hooks for best results.
