August Fly Fishing Report

Just wanted to post our fishing report on our lakes, rivers, and streams for everyone to check out.  We hope it helps out when planning your next fishing trip.

Toccoa River

There’s been some reports up on the web stating the Toccoa River fishing has been on fire.  One of the reasons our company has been successful as an outfitter in North Georgia over the years is because we are always honest with our clients.  If the fishing is bad we’ll be the first ones talking to our clients about different fishing options or rescheduling for a different date.  So for what its worth here is our latest fishing report on the Toccoa River.

I had a chance the other day to wade fish the Toccoa River and I also talked to some guide buddies of mine about their fishing.  We all agreed that stating the river was “on fire” was a tad of an overstatement.  We’re all catching fish but numbers are down.  August generally is a tough month of the year for fishing on the Toccoa River.  The best time to fish the Toccoa this time of year is early and late in the day.  Heavy angler traffic on the river is also taking a toll on the fishing.  Each year we see increased numbers of boats and rods on the river.  Many of which are from out of state.  It seems the river is getting pretty popular in the southeast for being the place to catch a trophy trout.  Once school starts back up we should see some decline in fishing pressure.

This in mind anglers need to be ready to adapt their tactics to the tough fishing.  We suggest lengthening your leaders, especially if your dry fly fishing, scaling down your tippet size, especially if your getting refusals, and taking the time to make the first cast count.  Slow down your fishing and and observe what the trout are eating and where they are stationed up feeding.  Also, if you do find some fish take the time to change flies until you dial in on what the fish are keying in on.  More than ever this calls for having a diverse selection of flies.  As always, it is also really important for everyone to move on after they catch a few fish to ensure other anglers have success and that we limit the amount of pressure we’re putting on the trout.

In conclusion, the Toccoa River is fishing, but we wouldn’t consider it to be the hottest month to be out there.  Reel Job Fishing guides are however, catching trout in numbers relevant to the time of year.  As we move through August into September and October fishing will really pick up.  Give us a call if you have anymore questions about the Toccoa River or your wanting to book a guided float trip at 770-330-7583.

Noontootla Creek Farms

Water levels are good and the trout are eating our bugs aggresively currently.  This time of year its really hard to find a better place to trout fish.  Our clients are catching good numbers of fish and we’re fishing dries, nymphs, and streamers with good success.  Reel Job Fishing, guides are staying busy tying up their newest fly creations and having big trout pounce on them.   If rains continue to fall in North Georgia we’re going to continue to have great summer fishing here.  If the rain slows up, water levels will drop and make the fishing a little tougher.  Low water levels means stealthy wading, longer leaders, finer tippet, and spot on presentations.  Right now, we’re just happy to see hungry trout and good water levels.  If your looking at landing a big boy on a small stream this is the place to do it.  Give us a call and we’ll be happy to guide you on our home water.  Living five minutes from Noontootla Creek, we frequently head over in the evening to get up to date fishing condition reports and observe the feeding trout.

Bass Fishing on the Lakes

Bass fishing is hot right now especially on Lake Chickamauga, Lanier, Carters, and Chatuge.  We’ve been running quite a few trips lately with Reel Job Fishing guide, Eric Welch and he’s done an outstanding job with our clients on the lakes.  Lake Blue Ridge fishing has been fishing best at night lately, and that’s what we’re recommending to our clients if they’re interested in fishing there.   For day trips we’ve been bass fishing on Lake Chickamauga, Chatuge, Carters, and Lanier.  Good numbers of fish have been taken on plastics and we’re excited right now to push the bass trips since the fishing has been so hot lately.  Right now you can book a full day bass trip for $375 which includes up to two anglers.  If your interested in chasing down some black bass give us a call at 770-330-7583 and we’ll be happy to put you on the lake thats fishing the best and fits your personal needs.

Keep it Reel,

Reel Job Fishing Staff
