Still Fishing in Cumberland Island

Still fishing in Cumberland Island is a versatile way to go. You can do it from a pier, a bridge, an anchored boat or from shore. You can still fish on the bottom or off the bottom in ponds, lakes, rivers and streams for a variety of species. And you can still fish during most seasons and during any part of the day. Your equipment and the size of the hooks and bait you use depends on what kind of fish you¹re after. But your best equipment for still fishing is patience. You have to wait for the fish to bite.

Step1

Cast the line in the water and let it settle. The line and the bait should be kept as still as possible. The fish will be attracted to the normalcy of the bait. Seek out rocky or tree-covered areas that might be providing shelter and feeder fish.

Step2

Wait quietly. Be patient. Consider anchoring your pole down and make your own lures while you wait for a bite.

Step3

Keep your net close to your pole. You don't want lose a big catch because you can't find your net.

Step4

Put the fish you catch on ice and clean them before cooking them.
