Spin Casting along Jekyll Island

Spin casting along Jekyll Island is an ideal fishing method for beginning anglers. Spin-casting equipment is easier to use than bait casting. You can use it to cast both light and heavy lures without tangling or breaking your line. Basic equipment includes a 7-foot rod, a spinning reel and 6–10 pound test line for casting 1/16 to 3/4 ounce lures. You can use an open-face, closed-face or spin-cast reel for spin casting. Step 1
Grip the handle with one hand. Turn the rod sideways so the reel handle points straight up if you're right-handed. If you're left-handed, point the handle of the reel straight down. Push the reel's button with your thumb and hold it down.
Step2
Face the area you want your line to go and turn your body slightly at a right angle. The arm closest to your target area should be the one holding the rod.
Step3
Point the tip of the rod toward the area you want your line to go. Make sure the tip is level with your eyes.
Step4
Quickly bend the arm holding the rod, raise your forearm until your hand reaches eye level, and move your forearm forward with a slight movement of your wrist.
Step5
Release the thumb button when your rod reaches eye level and cast the line.
Step6
Use a spincasting pole when you fish for pan fish such as bluegill, crappie and sunfish.
